Their aims are to help Hucknall regain its position as a strong, viable market town, attract visitors to the town, to help increase its economy and to raise awareness of our heritage to both visitors and residents.

 

They work with other well established organisations such as the Chamber of Trade, Hucknall Heritage Society, St. Mary Magdalene Church, Ashfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, the Library and Volunteer Organisations in order to ensure that the town is working together and to prevent duplication of work.

 

Through having a wide variety of people joining the group it is hoped that their aims will be achieved in a way that is sympathetic to the wishes of Hucknall's residents. Occasional surveys are undertaken to glean the views of the wider public.

 

The group seek every opportunity to market the town; such as radio interviews, newspaper coverage, exhibitions in the street and at events, leaflets and posters. Heritage trails have been designed, one for the town centre and a 20 mile circular trail. To complement these trails, leaflets have been produced and free guided walks/bus tours take place throughout the Spring & Summer months.

 

The group have actively worked with the local authorities to have brown tourism signs erected and interpretation boards strategically placed throughout the town centre. They interviewed hundreds of people and visited heritage centres across the Midlands to support a professional feasibility study towards a Tourism & Heritage centre for the town. Another major achievement is the creation of the Visitor Information Point, which the group run, within the library (see separate page).

 

All of the above, along with other activities, have taken place in less than two years with many more activities planned for the next two years. This is a very proactive group who are earnestly seeking to build Hucknall. There is an open door for any like minded people to join them, especially for those who have time availble to volunteer in the Tourist Information Point, act as occasional heritage walk/drive guides or to help promote the town in other ways.
