Geographers Enjoy Heritage
On Sunday 8th October 2006 a large group of Geographers, who had travelled from many parts of the country met at Nottingham Train Station and then travelled to Hucknall via the tram. Once here they were treated to a guided heritage walk around the town by Sandy Singleton, of the Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group and Peter and Mary Butler of the Hucknall Heritage Society.
The group, who had been divided into two separate parties, were delighted with the experience and wished that they had allowed more time for such a fascinating heritage walk. They are considering coming along again and also giving thought to one of our heritage bus tours.
Paddy Tipping MP Presented James Purnell MP with a copy of the Towns Latest Leaflet
Hucknall’s Heritage and Culture Promoted at Westminster
An invitation and a warm welcome to Hucknall was issued by the town’s MP, Paddy Tipping, to Tourism Minister, James Purnell, at the Palace of Westminster in October. Paddy presented the Minister with copies of the new leaflet promoting Hucknall published by Ashfield district council Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group, and the Greater Nottingham Partnership.
Paddy said, ‘Hucknall has a lot to be proud of, the Byron’s story has international importance. There is a great deal to see and visit in Hucknall. This new leaflet provides an excellent introduction. Congratulations to all involved.
It’s significant that I presented the leaflet in front of the Clock Tower and Big Ben. It is often argued that Big Ben is named after Hucknall Victorian prize fighter Ben Caunt.
I am always keen to promote Hucknall’s history and its future.’
