Paddy Tipping MP Presented James Purnell MP with a copy of the Towns Latest Leaflet

Hucknall’s Heritage and Culture Promoted at Westminster

An invitation and a warm welcome to Hucknall was issued by the town’s MP, Paddy Tipping, to Tourism Minister, James Purnell, at the Palace of Westminster in October. Paddy presented the Minister with copies of the new leaflet promoting Hucknall published by Ashfield district council Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group, and the Greater Nottingham Partnership.

Paddy said, ‘Hucknall has a lot to be proud of, the Byron’s story has international importance.  There is a great deal to see and visit in Hucknall.  This new leaflet provides an excellent introduction.  Congratulations to all involved.

It’s significant that I presented the leaflet in front of the Clock Tower and Big Ben.  It is often argued that Big Ben is named after Hucknall Victorian prize fighter Ben Caunt.

I am always keen to promote Hucknall’s history and its future.’

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2009 Hucknall Window Dressing Competition, which was organised by the Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group, was won by FANCY PANTS of Annesley Road. Our Treasurer, Sheila Robinson had the honour of presenting the 2009 cup to Jess Wall, the owner of the business.

The public chose the winner who beat SENSE Charity Shop into second place by just one vote. Thanks go to all those who took part in this year's competition. However a Big Thank You to the Premier Inn, Nottingham Road, Hucknall who donated prizes for the competition.

GOOD NEWS STORIES

Winners of an Award

The Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group have recently won an Award  for ‘Community Engagement & Cultural Change’ in the sum of £3000 which is to be spent on a new Touch Screen Computer system to be installed in the Library.   This will enable us to provide even more information!    More details to follow in July after presentation of the award.

Volunteers

Another Good News Story is that we now have over 20 volunteers helping us with staffing the Information Points, guiding and escorting on bus tours, preparing and leading walks around the area.

Public Maps

The schematic map now appears on several large scale Interpretation Boards around Hucknall Town Centre, starting at the tram/train station, in order to help visitors find their way around the town. The map is also a focal point of a readily
available leaflet.
